Energy Dictionary "Q"

Quad – One quadrillion Btu. (1,000,000,000,000,000 Btu)

Quadgeneration™ – Often exceeding 90% system efficiency, quadgeneration is the simultaneous production of four energies from one fuel, in one process – typically, these energies include electricity, hot water, steam and chilled water.

Our company has recently developed a proprietary new energy and power system that we call our Quadgeneration™ power and energy system. In our quadgeneration™ system, we incorporate solar thermal collectors that matches or exceeds the heating, cooling, and domestic hot water requirements for the commercial building (apartment, hospital, school, office, etc.) or residential property. By meeting the solar thermal of the building, home or facility, and providing the cooling and heating requirements with the sun, we produce lean energy and are able to install a much smaller trigeneration system, oftentimes by 50% or smaller.

Qualifying Facility (QF) – A category of electric power producer established under the Public Utility Regulatory Policy Act (PURPA) of 1978, that includes small-power producers (SPP) who use renewable sources of energy such as biomass, geothermal, hydroelectricity, solar (thermal and photovoltaic), and wind, or cogenerators who produce both heat and electricity using any type of fuel. PURPA requires utilities to purchase electricity from these power producers at a rate approved by a state utility regulatory agency under Federal guidelines. PURPA also requires utilities to sell electricity to these producers. Some states have developed their own programs for SPPs and utilities.
